What details must an invoice contain?

An invoice is invalid without some basic details about the transaction and the transacting parties. Some of the main details that are required for every invoice is as follows:

-> The word 'Invoice' at the top to clarify what sort of document it is.

-> An invoice number which will act as an identifier in case of queries and disputes. This can be a simple number or a mixture of letters and numbers, but they must make some logical and organisational sense to the person issuing the invoice.

-> The name, address, and contact details of both the companies. This is essential for identifying the parties to the transaction, and is especially useful for taxation and legal purposes.

-> Details of the transaction. A clear description of the products and service being charged is necessary. Also required is a break-up of the cost of all the items / services.
